2008 B.A.A. Boston Marathon
Road Closures

The Boston Transportation Department is advising motorists that vehicles will be prohibited and parking will be restricted on many streets in Downtown Boston on Monday, April 21, 2008 due to the running of the Boston Marathon. It is strongly recommended that the public use the MBTA to travel to and from Boston on this day.

THE STREETS LISTED BELOW WILL BE CLOSED TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC ON MONDAY, APRIL 21

Saturday, April 19
The Boston Marathon's Children's Relay Races will take place on Saturday, April 19. To accommodate the event, Boylston Street, from Exeter Street to Clarendon Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 10 AM to 3 PM.

Sunday, April 20th
The International Freedom Run will take place on Sunday, April 20. Streets along the race route will be closed for periods of time as the runners make their way toward the finish line.

An estimated 5000 participants will begin the run on Boylston Street at Copley Square at 8AM and proceed over the following streets:
  • Boylston Street
  • Washington Street
  • Bromfield Street
  • Tremont Street
  • Park Street
  • Beacon Street
  • Exeter Street
  • Finish at the Marathon Finish Line on Boylston Street.

Race Day Street Closings in City of Boston

Monday, April 21st

Boston's annual Patriot's Day Parade will take place on Monday, April 21, Participants will gather on Cambridge Street near the flagpoles on City Hall Plaza and proceed along the following route beginning at 9:30 AM.

  • Congress Street
  • Hanover Street
  • End at the stage in front of the Paul Revere Mall.

DRIVERS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT PARKING WILL BE RESTRICTED ON MANY OF THESE STREETS SEVERAL DAYS IN ADVANCE OF MARATHON MONDAY TO ALLOW FOR PREPARATION WORK TO TAKE PLACE. BACK BAY DRIVERS ARE CAUTIONED TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO POSTED SIGNS THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.
